Thanks Matt for sparking the first hypertextual stop.
Personally, this short journey made me think that WordPress MU has the potential to be a very useful tool for communication and collaboration within individual research communities — such as universities. This way faculty and students alike can receive various updates from all across campus and know what’s happening in other faculties.
Additionally, imagine each course in the curriculum having its own blog, with posts by different lecturers and designated students, while commenting is open to the entire campus. It’s a great way to engage everyone in the subject matter and to collectively organize the appropriate knowledge base. Another example is a frustrated researcher who can blog about his drawbacks and discoveries, while receiving constructive criticism and helpful suggestions from people he wouldn’t normally turn to for help in his work.
Furthermore, local social initiatives can gain momentum through a popular MU platform. In general, having more people heard is always a good idea, and WordPress MU (+ BuddyPress) is organizing these voices in a manner worth trying.
By the way, these things could never be achieved via micro-blogging and social networks alone.
So, when are we seeing universities officially going MU in Israel?? It is high time, and I believe people are definitely ready.
