GM on eBay

Goverment Motors
GM, the American car company that declared bankruptcy earlier this year and was taken over by the government (hence, Government Motors), has decided to try as a new outlet for selling their cars. Mark LaNeve, vice president for Vehicle Sales and Marketing, says that the program is going to start today in California.

Strange that the American government is actually thinking of something innovative. Under the program, buyers can browse California dealer showrooms, ask questions to representatives, haggle a bit, put together a financing plan, and in the end, buy a 2008, 2009, 2010 car. “If it works well in California, it could prove to
be a whole new model for how we sell our vehicles across the United States,” he says.

eBay Motors

GM is setting up its own site through eBay, with URL gm.ebay.com. Buyers can either pay the advertised price using the Buy It Now option, or they can offer a price using eBay’s auction system.

Something tells me they should have done this a long time ago, what with people using eBay and such. The program will run a period from today (August 11) until September 8, and if successful, will spread to other states.
