Fight Against SOPA Rages
The fight against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) is raging. The idea for the bill is “To promote prosperity, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation by combating the theft of U.S. property, and for other purposes.” – this of course would mean that websites would have to be careful with the content they publish, it will allow the government in the US to block US visitors from visiting certain websites.
The other bill is PIPA (Protection IP Act), a bill to prevent online threats to economic creativity and theft of intellectual property, and for other purposes.
The protest and fight has been raging on with a blackout of some large sites blacking out for 24 hours, including Wikipedia –
“The English Wikipedia joined thousands of other web sites in protesting SOPA and PIPA by blacking out its content for 24 hours. The purpose of the blackout was twofold: to raise public awareness, and to encourage people to share their views with their elected representatives.”
